Making the most of your flowers

Flowers are Mother Nature’s little treats, so we need to do the best we can for these natural beauties. Flowers are perishable, so treat them with respect, love and special care and they will last a lot longer.

Tip 1 Always recut your flowers as soon as you get them home – this will give them maximum drinking ability to keep them rehydrated.

Tip 2 Fresh water is the key to making your flowers happy, so make sure that their happiness is maintained daily.

Tip 3 Flowers and heat are not the best of friends – so place your pods in a cool area.

Tip 4 Remember you don’t always have to use just a boring old vase for your arrangements, have a rummage through your cupboards to see what other objects you can find. What about an old jug, jam jar or even a welly boot, by putting your jar inside you welly and arranging the flowers – stunning!

Tip 5 When your flowers have reached the end of their lives why not involve the children and press your flowers for keepsake. You can either buy a flower press or make your own using blotting paper between two large heavy books.

Tip 6 Some of your arrangements might incorporate herbs, so make your arrangement work even harder for you by creating a delicious meal which uses the herbs from your bouquet.
