Our production team decamped to the beautiful Walnuts Farm in Heathfield, East Sussex to shoot our new Spring/Summer collection. ‘Prepare for the Season Ahead’ is a look forwards to the oncoming springtime and the hive of activity that is the garden and allotment at this much-anticipated time of year.
Given the growing your own, getting your hands dirty theme of the shoot the kitchen garden, grounds and orchard were the first thing that attracted the team to the farm, but it didn’t take long for everyone to fall in love with the beautifully decorated 17th century farmhouse. Full of original Wealden charm and stocked with an enviable collection of antiques, curiosities and collected treasures, it was easy to see why. When the hired catering company was unable to work one of the days of the shoot, the team made use of the (fantastic) set kitchen to cook up a storm; it is, after all, first and foremost a family home.
There were many children and animals on the shoot, which always keeps the team on their collective toes. We incorporated plenty of vegetables and homegrown fruit into the shoot and much fun was had by the children building vegetable towers, juggling potatoes, wheelbarrow racing and having cabbage patch jumping competitions. Building a scarecrow was a highlight of the shoot – for many of the adults, too! And the fields located behind the house were the scene of much racing, burning off energy and clambering on fences and stiles.
“Can you juggle apples” one of our mini-models asked her on-shoot ‘dad’.
“no, I’m afraid I can’t” he replied.
“Well, my real dad can!”
