We’re delighted to introduce our brand, new collection of Joules beds, ottomans and more in collaboration with DFS. The range features handmade beds, hand-painted prints and a range of pieces to bring a touch of country charm to your home.
We caught up with Joules print designer, Rebecca Bushell, to hear more about the inspiration behind the range.
“The mood of this collection was inspired by a trip to Pembrokeshire to a beautiful country house hotel which had been filled with exquisite textiles and antique furniture. It had a grandness to it that was also really inviting. We wanted these pieces to capture the timelessness and sumptuousness of a country house, but in a way that still made it feel like a relaxing home space.
The floral print on this collection actually started as a watercolour painting which I painted by hand, the old school way! I wanted this print to have a well-travelled, country house feel to it so I began with the greens and reds that you can see – the types of colours that old country houses would have been painted in. I later added in the ultramarine blue to lend an extra depth and warmth to the pattern.
We wanted the colours in this collection to stand the test of time and for the designs to be traditional but with a Joules twist. I think they do that in a really special way.”
“We have two styles of bed in this collection: our Hambledon bed and our Thornton bed. Our Thornton bed is a real statement. We’ve seen a trend for these beautiful, slightly wavy scalloped headboards, and we loved how it lent a bespoke country home feel to the room.
Our Hambledon bed, on the other hand, reminds me of Sunday mornings in a cosy cottage. It has these beautiful pleats on the headboard and is so soft and squishy that you just want to sink into it. Both are a lovely way to bring a bit of Joules into your home in a timeless, subtle way.
But we didn’t stop at beds! For a truly relaxing experience, we broadened our range to also feature ottomans, chaises longues and chairs; so you can mix and match pieces for a style that’s truly bespoke to you and your home.”
“What I love about this collection is the closer you get, the more details you notice.
The fabrics, for instance, are woven for an artisanal feel and have a lovely soft quality to them. On the Thornton bed, the scalloped headboard has piping all around the edge, which is echoed by other pieces in the collection such as the chair. The buttons on the Hambledon bed are velvet and each tuck has been carefully placed.
Every element is considered. It’s our signature Joules handwriting.”
