11th August 2016
Thanks to the 1871 Bank Holidays Act (there’s some ammunition for your next pub quiz) we’re all looking forward to an extra day off.
Here are five great ideas on how to spend it…
26th – 28th August
Alex James’ Farm, Near Kingham, Oxfordshire
Jamie Oliver and Blur bass player/cheese maker Alex James are the driving force behind The Big Feastival. This festival brings first-class food and music together for a weekend of summer fun for the whole family. Set on Alex’s farm in Kingham the event raises funds for the Jamie Oliver Foundation, supporting food education for all.
We’ll be there too. Come and say hello, feast (sorry) your eyes on our new collection and join us for a spot of welly-wanging.
Psst! Can’t make it? Hold your own back garden festival. No ticket required, dates optional. All you really need is some music, your friends and family and a barbecue.
It’s raining? Playing in the garden is out of the question; the cinema is miles away and your fast running out of ways to keep them entertained. Fear not, our Storybook Competition is here to help. All that’s required is your imagination and the internet (which if you’re reading this, we guess you have). Simply head to getcreative.joules.com and give it your best shot. The winner will receive a bunch of prizes worth over £1500 and it’s open to children of all ages (from 1 – 100). What are you waiting for?
If the weather is nice enough, have a BBQ. There are only a few weekends of the year when it will be warm enough to sit outside, eat outside and well, just be outside. If you do fire up the barbie, here’s a marinade to make it a tastier affair.
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Marinade the meat (chicken, pork, steak) for a minimum of two hours. Enjoy.
Rio 2016 may be over, but that doesn’t mean the fun and games have to be. Adults vs Children will add an edge to the competition. But remember, it’s only taking part that matters (yeah, right). Here are some ideas…
The easiest (and cheapest) things to do can often be the best. If you haven’t got a favourite trek, there’s plenty of walking routes to be found at nationaltrust.org.uk. Sometimes nothing beats getting away from it all (leave your phones at home) and filling your lungs with fresh air.
