Ah Christmas! Good food, good company, good times… carols are starting to spill out of shop doors and the air is buzzing with festive cheer. As traditional Christmas parties take a step back this year, why not start a new festive tradition and host your very own virtual event instead! We know it’s not quite the same but just because we can’t meet up in person doesn’t mean we can’t feel connected and have a bit of festive fun.
To help you get started, we’ve put together some tips and tricks for hosting a virtual Christmas party that everyone will want to attend, from getting it organised to lots of fun and games, consider this your ultimate Christmas party guide.
First thing’s first! Decide on your date and time and choose how you’re going to host your party. If you’re a smaller group, you might want to use Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp or if you’re a larger group you might want to consider Zoom so you can see everyone’s faces.
If you’re feeling creative why not send a jazzy invitation too!
Let’s be honest, food is one of the best bits about Christmas! To give your party a really Christmassy feel, send out some food and drink recipe ideas that you can all make and eat ‘together’ during the party. You can either all choose the same thing or you could each try out and swap different recipes, it’s completely up to you!
Your Christmas event might be virtual but doesn’t mean you can’t dress up in your best/worst Christmas jumper! Get everyone ready to vote on who’s wearing the best Christmas outfit, bonus points for paper crowns and background decorations!
Once you’ve all chatted and caught up, it’s time to play some festive-themed games! Think Christmas bingo, a Christmas pub quiz, decorating Christmas hats, Pictionary or even Charades. If you’re feeling nervous about what games people will like you can send out a poll beforehand or just make it up as you go along.
This is also a great time to open your Secret Santa gifts so you can see everyone’s reaction!
Just because it’s a virtual event, doesn’t mean it’s over as soon as you hit the End Meeting button. Take photos during the event and encourage your guests to take pictures of their foodie creations and festive outfits that you can then share together. If you’ve played some games together, why not send the winners a medal (virtual or real) that they can proudly show off later!
Whatever you decide to do for your Christmas party we hope you don those Christmas hats, blast those Christmas tunes and have some lovely festive fun.
