At Joules, we love prints. From florals to stripes, and everything in between they’re part and parcel of our day-to-day life. Layering prints however, can be somewhat challenging, so we’ve asked fashion and lifestyle blogger Kat-Louise to show us how to layer prints this autumn.
I think it’s fair to say autumn brings some exciting style updates. The changing of the seasons can happen thick and fast in the UK, and when autumn arrives – we sure know about it. It seems just days ago I was donning flip flops and summer skirts, and just like that… it’s boots, layers and finding the perfect winter coat.
We all know that layering is key to maintaining a comfortable temperature – whether that’s shopping, and diving between centrally heated shops and the nippy high street, or wrapping up warm when the frost really hits. But layering needn’t be dull and hidden – it doesn’t just mean one monochrome tee under a plain sweater. I’ve always associated Joules with prints – classic and colourful, it was the first thing that came to mind when I was invited to write this post. Summery floral patterns, or all-year-round Breton stripes; Joules always delivers when it comes to contemporary and characteristic prints.
In a bid to steer my autumn wardrobe on a little bit more of a colourful track, I decided it was time to give pattern clashing ago. I see so many others achieving a seemingly effortless look, that appears not only warm but also unique. Joules’ current range of casual women’s shirts is right up my alley – checks and classics stripes. I opted for the Lucie classic fit shirt in cream. Not only does this shirt fit like a dream – neat yet comfortable and roomy, its muted print was the perfect starting point for a layering newb. With primary colour-checks, I knew it’d be easy to layer up and find a suitable counterpart for my first attempt at clashing!
Enter, the Harbour top.
As a self-confessed stripe addict, I can’t help myself when one is in sight. After browsing the huge range Joules have to offer, I settled on the classic navy. With a contrasting print on the back it was just that bit daring yet safe enough to layer on top of my new shirt. And the rest of the look? I kept it simple – loose boyfriend jeans and some staple leather Chelsea boots to ensure comfort!
The outcome? I hope the pictures do the talking and you’ll agree, layering checks and stripes works a dream. I was comfortable, more than warm enough and felt that little bit different with my dash of clash and pinch of print!
