To celebrate the start of spring, we’re delighted to introduce our brand, new collection of Joules wallpapers in collaboration with Graham & Brown. Inspired by the great outdoors, this range features all the colours of nature to bring joy and vibrancy to your home, with designs to add a touch of Coastal Calm, Modern Heritage or Contemporary Country.
We caught up with Joules print designer, Rebecca Bushell, to hear more about the inspiration behind the ranges.
“Our Modern Heritage wallpaper range was inspired by maximalism to which we wanted to add a heritage twist. To begin, we lent a classic chinoiserie feel to bold Joules florals, hand-painting the flowers with gouache to create rich, dense colours. We really wanted this range to have an opulent, almost enchanted forest feel to it. If you look closely, on some designs you can spot traditional English flowers, such as sweet peas, as well as berries and figs on others.
We loved the idea of beautiful, bold designs with a hidden English countryside twist. There are also a few feathered creatures hiding in this collection too!”
“The Contemporary Country part of the range is really rooted (pardon the pun!) in the British landscape. We wanted this collection to feel like you were inviting the wild and wonderful wildlife indoors. Big, bold florals are mixed with dainty smatterings of forget-me-nots that will have you feeling like you’re walking along a woodland path.
We also drew inspiration from permiculture, a gardening technique of leaving the land to do what it does best, as well as lots of bee-and-insect-friendly plants. If you look closely, you’ll see we’ve hidden all sorts of details: endangered butterflies, miniature frogs and even flora from the British countryside, such as fennel and chives.”
“Much as we love the countryside, we also love the seaside! The Galley Grade collection is all about the calming colours of the sea and bringing that salty, fresh air indoors. Bright blues mix with a cheery, sunshine yellow and sea creatures swim around, ready to decorate your walls. Of course, the seaside isn’t just the sea: we’ve also added a nod to clifftop florals and stripy seaside tents too.”
“The new arrival of a little one in the family is such a joyous occasion so we wanted to create a joyful and colourful range to match. Sitting alongside our Colourful Beginnings Collection, these wallpapers are designed to add fun, joy and, of course, colour! We wanted these wallpapers for little ones to be as bright and smile-inducing as possible, almost like a real-life rainbow.”
