Louise Roe: Dressing For Winter

If you’ve followed my blog you’ll know my love of colour in my clothes knows no bounds. Joules also live and breathe colour; from their bold floral print wellington boots to their neon pop detailing, and like me, they’re Brits who’ve ventured over the pond to the USA, so I was delighted to be invited to judge their exciting Design Your Own Welly competition! A great opportunity for all you fans of colour to have a go at creating your own print, with the chance to win a luxury break worth up to $10,000, plus your design in stores.

This year I released Front Roe, a style bible drawing from my own experiences with fashion and make up. The book encourages readers to go on a journey to find their own personal style. Finding your fashion staples for the season is a great starting point, so I thought I’d share with you my top Joules picks for a capsule winter wardrobe. Whether in New York or London, on a bracing winter walk with my dog, or an evening stroll with friends, these are my six go-to winter essentials.

Chunky Knits

It’s the time of year to embrace cosy, and a chunky knit roll neck sweater will easily break a cold chill. Layered over skinny jeans keeps the look feminine and chic.

The statement coat

Joules rainwear goes beyond wellington boots. Their Right As Rain coats offer protection from the elements without sacrificing style. The Gayle parka is a must for those chillier days; lightweight but waterproof with a faux fur half lining to see you right through winter feeling downright toasty!

Blanket scarf

The most versatile of all accessories; the oversized blanket scarf. Worn as a shawl, a cape, or a scarf, it’s a wardrobe essential for the chillier days of fall. Choose one with neon or bold colours to brighten a monochrome outfit.

Welly good boots

That most iconic of British footwear, the wellington boot. Whether in New York or London, there’s always a chance of rain, and thankfully Joules has a huge range welly designs to cater for everyone. I love these glossy black boots with mustard detailing, perfect with indigo skinny jeans. Just add puddles!

A dash of faux fur

Keeping warm doesn’t mean sacrificing glamour. A vintage inspired faux fur hat not only hides a bad hair day, it also adds a bit of fun to the greyest of days.

Boyfriend Shirt

Autumn is for layering, and a great foundation for a layered look is an oversized boyfriend shirt. Again, worn with slim fit or skinny jeans to break up the shapes and stop the outfit looking bulky.
