Meet the Characters:

Q&A with Sausage the Cat

30th October 2017

Born in 2007, Sausage is a best friend of Emily Crackle and part of the ‘Famous Fur’, a group of pets consisting of Sausage, Montague, Paul and Molly. An extremely clever cat, he is known for his wit and sarcasm.

What is your earliest memory?

My earliest memory was being a kitten and falling asleep on Emily’s lap in the back of the car on the way back from the pet shop. I was so excited about becoming part of a family.

What makes you happy?

I love smoked mackerel and cucumber sandwiches. Did you know that because of its high oil content, mackerel is one of the best fish for smoking?

What’s your favourite smell?

Smoked mackerel and cucumber sandwiches. And also I love the smell of newspapers. As a cat, it shouldn’t really be my job to fetch the newspaper, but I love to. I wait for it to drop through the letterbox most mornings and give it a good sniff and read before taking it into the kitchen.

Are you a creature of habit?

Please don’t call me a creature. I’m a cat.

What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

A few years ago Emily gave me a crossword book. I completed it by New Year’s Eve. My general knowledge is unrivalled. You probably don’t need to know this, but I’m going to tell you, the term “crossword” first appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1933. As I said, my general knowledge is vast.

Have you ever been sledging?

Really?

What’s your favourite Christmas carol or song?

Santa Claws is Coming to Town is a classic in the feline world. So either that or Once in Royal David’s City. It was hearing carols as a kitten that made me first fall in love with Christmas.
