My Sunday: Two Work Or Play

Reclaim your Sunday. Have a lazy day. Sit back and relax. Graphic designer and blogger Natalie Jahangiry gives her tips on the perfect laid back Sunday in Putney, London.

The lazy Sunday. That wonderful day where the diary is empty and you get a chance to kick back. Every few weekends I make a point of reclaiming my Sunday and taking it easy. Those who read my blog To Work or Play will know I’m a big fan of interior style. I continue to buy homeware despite the fact I have overflowing cupboards full of ‘Natty friendly’ stuff. I spend countless hours on Pinterest looking for inspiration, regardless of the boyfriend constantly telling me I need to curb my addiction.

Knowing how much I love interior design, Joules gifted me some pieces from their new homeware range and asked me to give my tips on my perfect laid back Sunday from the little bit of London zen I call home. The print of my new 100% cotton (and 100% cosy) floral print bedding was inspired by the Joules print team’s visit to the Chelsea Flower Show, and the streams of guests walking around carrying giant statement bouquets.

Duvet Diaries (Just add pancakes)

So let’s start the day in bed, as you do! My boyfriend and I have a lie in and debate the day’s activities whilst curled up under the duvet. Eventually we hear the pitter patter of teeny tiny feet. Not a child, but our two furry friends, our cats, Tufty and Tilly. My knitted throw is now Tufty’s favorite sleeping blanket, she is obsessed with wrapping herself in the comfort of the moss-stitch wool.

Why move from your ohhh so warm bed if you have a willing partner who will bring you a delicious morning snack while you’re curled up in it?! Pancakes lathered in extra thick double cream, topped with blueberries and honey is my favorite way to start a lazy Sunday.

Fresh Air

Although the thought of going outside might not be so appealing when autumnal rain is pounding off the window, I always make the effort to get out and about. A waft of fresh air and I feel brand new. I’m a Geordie lass living in Putney, and feel very lucky to live a casual 10 minute stroll from the Thames riverbank. En route I’ll pop into one of my favorite little coffee shops, The Artisan, picking up a drink and a cheeky piece of cake for the journey home.

After a busy morning of relaxation, it’s great to make time for, yep, more relaxation! My guilty pleasure is my local boutique salon spa, Edward James Aveda. From hair cuts (which include an Indian head massage) to spa and beauty treatments, this venue has Sunday pampering down to a tee.

Hearty Food

I happen to love cooking. My dad’s a chef and I have grown up surrounded by great food so I appreciate really good, locally sourced food. Putney Pies ticks all the laid back Sunday boxes, handmade pies, check, craft ales, check, rustic charm and a river view, check!

Cosy Cinema

Sunday evenings are all about embracing my food coma in front of a good movie. My favorite Sunday viewings range from the artistic, such as Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, to magical classics like Paddington or Hugo.

If the cinema beckons, I always recommend a trip to the Electric Cinema in Portobello, Notting Hill. An intimate setting and great for a cosy evening with a loved one to see an arthouse film you won’t find at a multi-screen complex.
