Packing tips for a weekend trip with the experts: Twins that Travel

22nd August 2017

Laura and Claire are a pair of travel-obsessed twins (you got it!) and the faces behind Twins that Travel. We thought we’d ask for their hints and tips on packing for a weekend away in the UK since bank holiday is quickly approaching and many of us are heading off for the three day weekend. Here’s what they had to say…

As full-time travel bloggers, we’ve had to learn the difficult lesson that ‘less is more’ when it comes to packing for short, weekend breaks. With this in mind, here are our tips for what to pack for a short break away. We promise, even without your entire wardrobe with you, you’ll still have plenty of great looks to fill your weekend.

Versatile Boots

Shoes are a premium when you have minimal space in your bag. To tackle this, we pack one pair of comfortable – yet super stylish – boots that we can wear whilst walking through cities during the day, and out to dinner in the evening. These Westbourne Leather Chelsea boots are perfect for this; adding a great hint of detail to any outfit.

Basic Tops for Layering

From over-heating in jumpers in busy cities, to experiencing teeth-chattering cold whilst exploring remote countryside, we’ve learnt the hard way that the key to any successful weekend wardrobe lies in the art of layering. Long sleeve cotton tops that can fit under our jumpers are now a staple in our suitcases. These Harbour Jersey Tops are the perfect layering companion for any weekend getaway.

Shirts

Adding a shirt to your suitcase is another great way to add variety to your weekend wardrobe. A Lucie Classic Fit Shirt, with a quirky print, is perfect for a more formal evening outing, whilst the Laurel Long Line Shirt is ideal for a day of exploring.

A Lightweight Jumper

Lightweight jumpers that can be rolled up and slotted amongst your bulkier item are a space-saving dream! We tend to opt for traditional colours such as navy and cream when it comes to our jumpers; ensuring they offer an effortlessly classic look when combined with a pair of jeans and leather boots. Our current favourite is the incredibly light Camara Tape Yarn Jumper.

The Casual Dress

On the day of travel to our weekend destination, we usually opt for a casual jersey style dress that’s comfortable and forgiving. This Jody Printed Jersey Dress is ideal to team with a pair of boots; adding a pair of tights for cooler climates.

And (of course) A Waterproof jacket

Whilst the idea of packing a denim jacket is always nice, as soon as the weather turns on us (which happens frequently), we’re always left wishing we packed something a little more practical. We definitely have a soft spot for gilets; small and lightweight they take up little room, but keep us snug on colder days. The classic Joules gilet is therefore a must, especially the Larkhill Padded Gilet. For extra protection, the Coast Waterproof Jacket is also a current staple of ours.
