The winter feels like it’s never ending and as much as we love getting wrapped up we’re hankering for brighter, warmer days. While we’re waiting for the weather to brighten up there’s plenty that can be done to make warmer days seem a little closer. You might not want to lose any layers just yet so the house is a very good place to start.
A few simple measures are all it takes to brighten up the home, and they needn’t break the bank either
OK, so it’s not the most exciting of prospects; cleaning. But when it comes to spring cleaning a little effort goes a long, long way. Open up the windows and get some fresh air flowing through the house – on a day there’s not a gale blowing, of course. Tackle those piles of debris that have gathered on worktops, bookshelves and windowsills. File papers and be ruthless with what can be thrown away. And once you’ve de-cluttered get busy cleaning. You’ll be very glad that you did.
A little spring room refresh does not need to be expensive. Make a few updates that will lift the room and add some colour to the picture too. The preparation for spring is definitely the right time to inject some colour. For the kitchen update your crockery with a couple of well-chosen pieces. Our Whitstable mugs are ideal for adding some spring floral accents. For a quick room lift, couple them with our Whitstable chair pads for a new look and feel.
Nothing says springtime like green shoots and flowers. Bursting with colour and fragrance, adding flowers to a room gives an instant lift. A bunch of daffodils can cost as little as £1 but look and smell fantastic. Choose unusual vessels as vases such as pots, old crockery and jars to add interest. For something a little longer lasting plant bulbs in shallow containers; hyacinth and narcissus are easy to care for and look beautiful too.
A new set of bedding can change the appearance of a room in a flash. Opt for colour and bold print for maximum wow effect. Choose a pale base too to add light to the room and usher in those spring vibes. Our Harbour floral bedding consists of both bold contrast florals and a soft striped base. Pair with our contrast Pom Pom throw – soft cream and grey stripes brought to life with a colour pop pom trim.
Simple, effective and free! There isn’t a room in any home that wouldn’t benefit from a change of location of the furniture every now and again. It’s a fast way of changing the face of a room and can help you make the most of the furnishings and furniture you already own. Start with the large items and take it from there. You might find your room more light, airy and spacious too.
How are you refreshing your home for the spring?
