Refreshing your bedroom doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul; sometimes the tiniest tweaks can give your sleeping space a fresh lease of life. Since the clocks will be moving forward at the end of the month, it’s time your bedroom does too. So bring out bright coloured accessories and fresh floral arrangements to give your bedroom the essence of spring.
We asked interiors stylist Emma Kay to tell us her four top tips for creating a new heavenly place to sleep this springtime.
Blue has been a huge trend on catwalks and in our homes for the last few seasons. Anything goes but I find lovely rich inky tones in particular work wonderfully in a bedroom, offering a dark counterpoint to brighter tones. A simple way to introduce this kind of statement-making colour is to paint the wall behind your bed head, then run riot with some bold, bright cushions and throws.
Adding different fabric textures to your bedroom ensemble is a quick and easy way to give it a fresh spring boost. Be confident enough to experiment with different textures and mix it all up as much as you fancy. Add linen cushions to a woolen throw and fuse together all those little design features you love. Anything goes.
The key to mixing patterns the modern way is to start with a neutral base and then build in your springtime shades. Swap old winter sheets and duvet covers for new crisp clean bedding in ink blue or pale greys to form a perfect canvas, then let all your favourite splashed ink prints and geometrics throws and cushions come out to play. Alternatively go for a duvet set that’s bright, bold and fabulously floral.
Updating your bedroom lighting is a great way to completely change the character and feel of the room. Pull a tone from any artwork you have on show or pick out a colour from your favourite bedspread or curtains and use it to inspire the colour scheme of your ceiling and side table lights.
