The Joules Bucket and Spade List

Here at Joules, we’re on a mission to make this summer the most fun ever! So to help keep your calendar jam-packed with adventures, and to avoid the phrase we all dread at this time of year (“I’m booored!”), we’ve pulled together the Joules Bucket and Spade List – like a bucket list, but filled with fabulous things to do all over the UK in summer!

1. Embrace the countryside
at Countryfile Live

Set in two beautiful locations, Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard, Countryfile Live celebrates all the best bits of the countryside in one big celebration of rural life. With a farmyard, fun fair, food market and much more, there’s plenty for the whole family to do, see and explore.

1st-4th August — Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire
15th-18th August — Castle Howard, North Yorkshire

2. Find the Durdle Door
in Dorset

Take a stroll along the Jurassic Coast in Dorset and you’ll stumble upon something quite extraordinary — no, not dinosaurs, but the Durdle Door — an archway cut into the rocky cliffside by the seas. Not only is this mystical marvel a must-see, the crystal waters are a perfect spot for paddling.

Open year round — Lulworth Cove, Dorset

3. Make marvellous memories
at CarFest

Don’t let the name fool you — CarFest is about much more than just cars (although petrol heads will be pleased with the many motors on display!). Expect music, madness and a whole lot of fun and games. Oh, and the best bit? All profits from the festival go to UK children’s charities.

26th-28th July — Bolesworth, Cheshire
23rd-25th August — Laverstoke Park Farm, Hampshire

4. Ride a wooden roller coaster
in Great Yarmouth

Built in 1932, Great Yarmouth’s simply named Roller Coaster (yes, that’s what it’s called!) is the only ride of its kind in the UK, and only one of eight in the world! At its 70ft peak, you can marvel at the scenic views of Yarmouth’s infamous pleasure beach — before plummeting back down at 45mph! Prepare for hands in the air, smiles from ear to ear and a roller coaster of emotions.

Open daily, 11am-6pm — Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

5. Treat your taste buds
at The Big Feastival

The Big Feastival is a festival like no other, with something for everyone to enjoy. Entertainment ranges from star-studded musical acts, demos from your favourite celebrity chefs, a whole fairground of fun and more food than you can shake a churro at. It really is a feast of the senses!

23rd-25th August — Alex James’ Farm, The Cotswolds

6. Play games with Joules
by the seaside

We love the seaside so much, we’re celebrating summer with a whole host of fun and freebies at all of our coastal stores! Play spin-to-win, sip on a drink from our friends at Belvoir and nibble on some sweets and treats while you shop. We can’t wait to sea you!

We hope this list has given you lots of inspiration for a summer filled with smiles. Make sure you look out for us on your travels, as the Joules team will be setting up shop at lots of summer events this year, including Countryfile Live, CarFest and the Big Feastival. We’ll see you there!

If you’re heading to the coast for your holidays (or you’re lucky enough to live close by!), we’ve teamed up with the Marine Conservation Society to bring you a special summer Let’s Explore kit, featuring a checklist of 20 activities for children going on a beach adventure.

Head outside and let the exploring begin!
