With an abundance of beaches and plenty of seaside charm, North Berwick is just the place to spend a day on the Scottish coast. Bursting with things to do and places to eat, read on for our guide to North Berwick, put together by our North Berwick store.
You can’t visit North Berwick without stopping by its beautiful beaches: Yellowcraigh Beach and Seaclliff beach are two of our favourites. Keep an eye out for Bass Rock too, which Sir David Attenborough described as ‘one of the 12 wildlife wonders of the world’ and which is a sanctuary for gannets. Looking out over Bass Rock is Tantallon Castle, an impressive ruined 14th century fortress – the views alone are worth a visit!
If you’re looking to soak up a bit of culture, stop by the National Museum of flight where you’ll find Scotland’s only Concorde, or wander along the harbour which has been there since the 12th century! The Seabird Centre is also a great day out and runs Wildlife boat trips where you can spot different seabirds and marine wildlife. And of course, we couldn’t forget the award-winning North Berwick distillery which offers tasting tours (yum).
Stopping in North Berwick for a bit longer? The pretty village of Gullane is perfect for a day trip.
North Berwick has an incredible list of places to eat, here are some of our favourites!
For ice cream (of course), Alandas is a must, or for baked goodies, head to Bostok. Looking for a café? Try The Buttercup Café, Steampunk, or Drift which has an amazing view and where you can walk down to the beach for views of bass rock and crystal clear water.
You’ll also be spoilt for choice for restaurants, so spoilt in fact that we could only narrow it down to our top 5: No 12, The Puffin, The Lobster Shack, The Rocketeer and North Berwick Fry.
As well as boat trips, kayak hire, horseback riding tours (check out Seacliff Stables) and East of Scotland Microlights (explore the coast by air!), North Berwick hosts many events throughout the year. If you’re thinking of visiting keep an eye out for them!
Fringe by the Sea: music, comedy, literature, this event has everything.
The North Berwick Festival: one of Scotland’s largest music festivals.
The Scottish Open: North Berwick is famed for its golf courses and hosts one of only eight tournaments to be part of the Rolex Series
Kilduff Farm – The Pumpkin Patch at Kilduff Farm: pick your own pumpkins and enjoy their autumn festival.
