Dresses are the ultimate summer wardrobe solution but when it comes to easy dressing one style reigns supreme.
Ask any woman- professional, busy mum, fashionista, jet setter or sporty type – what they love about the humble t-shirt dress and they’ll probably tell you one thing: comfort. We think there’s more to this perennial wardrobe superhero though.
The streamlined shape oozes wearability, with a neat silhouette that holds enough clout worn alone but then comes to life in seconds once layered and belted. Try an unbuttoned utility shirt; fine pastel knit or lightweight jacket on top.
“I like them for their almost boyish ease,” says fashion stylist and self-confessed t-shirt addict Candice Bailey. “I love oversized shapes – men’s proportions, as they feel really effortless and easy. I’d always style a t-shirt dress back with a classic trainer. Or add a tough edge with a chunky sandal.”
You can’t beat the easy to wear appeal of this wardrobe gem. Joules Social Media and PR Assistant Phylli Vostanis agrees, “The t-shirt dress is the epitome of easy, with a little high/low tweaking, it’s the one piece in my wardrobe that looks on point no matter what the occasion. I pull out my best sunglasses and flats for daytime and then dress it up with heels and a trophy necklace for night.”
The t-shirt dress is an all-year-round winner. Once the summer’s over (if it ever starts) you’ll get way more mileage when it becomes a cosy winter piece. A stash of long sleeve tops to pop under and a chunky woolen cardigan will soon see to that.
Let’s just round up this t-shirt dress tribute with a mention about how ridiculously flattering it is, figure skimming and elongating. Your new best friend.
Is the t-shirt dress a staple in your summer wardrobe?
